Hey Everyone!
I hope everyone has had an amazing first week in their field placements! So far, I am absolutely loving my placement! I am at York Suburban Middle School, in the 7th grade. I have always been really interested in teaching middle school so I am really enjoying myself. My cooperating teacher has been so gracious and has already given me opportunities to teach small lessons! I couldn't believe it! One day this week I sat down with a group of students and read a short story called "An American Childhood." Before we started the story, I had students visualize and write down a time in their life where they felt the most alive and then we all shared our stories. Afterward, we read the short story together and took time to stop and discuss and the students were so engaged! I mean there were a few times that students got off topic but it was really easy to get them back and focused on the story.
I was also given an opportunity to work with an ELL student this week. Students are working in writing workshops and composing responses to literature. Well, I started working with this student before I knew she was an ELL student and it was really challenging, but rewarding. I saw some small progress where she would light up because she understood what I was saying. It was really interesting and I am going to try and work with this student more over the next few weeks.
